If a certain page on a website does not load for some reason or in case a link is broken, the site visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the site, that may make the visitor leave your Internet site. A possible solution in this case is a function offered by some website hosting service providers - the ability to set up your own custom error pages which shall have the exact same design and style as your website and which may contain any text or images that you'd like based on the particular error. There are four standard errors that can occur and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it can't be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see some web page, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you don't have an authorization to view a certain page; and 404, if a link which you've clicked leads to a file which doesn't exist. In any of these situations, visitors will be able to see your customized content instead of a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting

You will be able to set up personalized error pages for all of your domains or subdomains. The function is supported by all cloud hosting solutions that we offer, so once you log in to the Hepsia Control Panel and go to the Hosted Domains section, you can click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up that"ll be displayed, you may choose the kind of error page which should show up - a default one from our system, a conventional Apache web server page or a customized one. For the latter alternative, you must specify the URL to the page, so when you use customized pages, you have to upload the files in your web hosting account first. Another way is to use an .htaccess file located in the domain or subdomain folder with a line for every error type. The correct syntax can be seen in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this feature even if you don't have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you host your Internet sites in a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you could set custom made error pages for any of them easily via our in-house developed Hepsia hosting CP. With a couple of mouse clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you could edit the default setting from a system page to a customized one for each of the 4 error types. All you need to do is supply a link to each and every file you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If required, you'll be able to revert this modification whenever you want and in exactly the same way. If you would like, you may use an .htaccess file as well. It has to be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder linked to the site whose error pages you want to change and the content for such a file can be found in our Help article about this matter.
